This week in math we are working on division. We are
starting to divide very large numbers. I have taught students to use estimation
to help them figure out how many times the divisor will go into the dividend. I
have also taught them to just pick a number and check using multiplication to
see if the divisor will go into the dividend that many times. Dividing large
numbers is a very hard concept for students. Please help your students any way
you can to understand this. We will be working very hard in class on this
concept. In writing this week we are writing another Persuasive Letter. This
week their topic is to write a letter to their parents trying to persuade them
to get a new pet. They are trying to persuade you what pet you should get. They
should have 3 good reasons why to get that pet as well as 3 examples to support
each of those 3 reasons. They will be working on it on class, but the MUST be
ready to type it on Friday. This means that their graphic organizer, rough
draft, revising, and editing must be done before they come to school on Friday.
Students will likely need to bring this assignment home to work on it before
Friday.
