Week 18 Vocabulary

Week 18

In reading this week we are reading several Christmas books and reviewing concepts we have talked about this year. For spelling we are doing Christmas List #2.

For writing we are writing letters to Santa, persuading him to give us the 3 things we want for Christmas. We will be working on these in class all week, and reading them to the class on Friday. We also just finished our persuasive letters to Mr. Campbell asking for a pajama day. We read the letters to Mr. Campbell and he has decided to let us have a pajama day on Wednesday December 18th.

In math we are working on our new unit, Measurement Conversions. This week we are learning how to convert length and weight using the metric and customary systems.

In Social Studies we are taking our Counties Test. My class will be taking theirs tomorrow, Tuesday, and Miss Goldsborough's class will take it on Wednesday. Please make sure your students study for it!

Week 17

This week in reading we are making connections and comparisons between books and the movie versions of the books. We will be reading and watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Twas the Night Before Christmas. We will be filling out a graphic organizer comparing and contrasting the book versions and the movie versions. For spelling this week and next, we will be doing Christmas words. This week we are doing Christmas List #1. Spelling homework will be the same, just the list is Christmas words.

In writing we are finishing our Persuasive Letters to Mr. Campbell. We will finish editing and revising, then we will rewrite, type on the blog, and share our letters with the class. We will vote on one letter to be read to Mr. Campbell to persuade him to let us have a pajama day. These letters are due on Friday.

In math we are finishing our Fractions Unit this week. We will be taking this test on Thursday. I will also be letting students retake the Unit 4 test on Place Value on Thursday.

In social studies we are taking our quizzes to prepare for our County Test next week. Please help your student remember to study their counties and county seats! Pictures of all answer keys as well as links to study are up on my blog. We are also working our our County Book's to review things we have learned about this year so far.

County Test and Quizzes

Since next week students will be starting their county quizzes and the following week they will take their county test, I thought I would show you a copy of what they are expected to know and do. Students need to memorize where the counties are and match what their county seat is. The names of counties don't have to be memorized. Here are copies of the answer key/study guides for all of the quizzes and the test. Good luck studying!
